Operating From Motel / Hotel rooms

Post by KQ4fm »

I am using a 30 foot piece of insulated number 14 hookup wire fashioned into somewhat of a loop and held to the curtain which is in front of a 4 X 12 window separated by 3 metal dividers. The loop is attached with clothes pins.

I am using a cheap little Travel tuner to make the loop match my Ic7000.. Running the rig at 50 watts, with no grounds, I am not experiencing any rf issues. The loop tunes very sharply on 30,40,20, and 15 meters. I am on the 4th floor facing the Atlantic ocean.

I can work any station that is about an S7 in strength on cw. Haven't tried ssb yet but can probably work the locals anyway. I tried every indoor antenna I could think of an nothing but the loop could even hear anything but electrical noise from the hotel. Success at last!
