Without doing tons of research. Are there any transceivers that have a GC receiver that is of equal (quality) to the stand alone SWL receivers that are currently available? (ie ICR75 etc) I'm trying to buy a unit that will meet all my needs! Thanks

Actually, most HF transceivers are as good as or better than receivers at least for the ham bands. Many are as good on the GC bands as well. For example, the Kenwood TS-440 is as good as its twin,. the R-5000 with just a few different features on one as the other. The Icom 718 is nearly as good as the R-75, but has a few less receive features such as only one AGC speed, IF shift instead of twin PBT, coverge only up to 30 MHz and no FM.

For about double the price of the R-75, you will be very happy with an Icom 746 which is just as good or better than the R-75 in every receive catagory and it also has TX capability.

For about 50% more than the R-75, my top recommendation would be a Kenwood TS-850SAT. For AM SWL, the stock 6 kHz filter is adequate, but I would add an Inrad 6kHz filter or a Kenwood YK88A-1 if you can find one at a reasonable price, The Inrad filter is just as good and can be bought directly from Inrad. The Kenwood filter is more of a wild card and can be found for as little as $75 or way over $100 on ebay.

Hope that helps,
