J-44 base question

Hi all. I use a J-37 key on a J-44 Base with my Field for cw.. 
I need to know what is used to Refill the wire rout in the bottom of the 44 base.
what ever was in mine was not re usable and I would like to re seal it.
any one know what was originally used?
