I am buying my first radio, a used yasue FT101E. Am considering using it at home, and then taking it onboard when sailing offshore. Would like to use the same automatic tuner at both locations. the boat will use a 30 ft. backstay antenna, with similar hookup on land. Any recommendations on auto. tuner and other equipment to get this radio on the air? thanks.

There is no original equipment auto-tuner for that vintage. You will need to look at the aftermarket versions. There is at least one that is a banner advertiser on this website. Take a look there for more information. Depending on how you plan to feed the mainstay antenna (coax? open wire? etc) the selection will be fairly limited.

My first thought, on a boat, how are you going to power the radio? The 101 series has tubes in the finals, thus you need 115VAC.
Would be better for a 12VDC radio.
Just a couple of thoughts. K4KK pretty well summed up the antenna situation.
