amps and antennas

Post by W4MCX »

I have a 6BTV with no radials, mounted on a 4' post. I feed it with RG8-X. I have a high SWR which I lower with a MN-2000. I also use a Dentron GLA-1000b which, I think because of the high swr, will only put out 300w. Does a bad swr directly reflect or hamper the output of an ampilfier, even though a proper tuner is used? Would a trap dipole be more appropriate? This vertical is hard to tune. It is a Hustler new version.... 73's Mike

You will find that a dipole is a balanced antenna and is not dependant on a massive ground radial system. The lower the SWR, the lower the transmission line losses. Go with a dipole.

6BTV SWR

I have a 6btv with 2 ground radials. Take your tuner out of the line and take the time to adjust the swr .Start at 10m and go up to 80m. You will be suprised at the difference. then use the tuner for fine tuning. A dipole or any other antenna is not a solution. Take the time to do it right. The tuner just fools the radio into seeing a good swr. You will be suprised at all the stations you will hear.
