Set yourself a pre limit on spending anything you buy outside of a 200 mile radius then do not exceed it. I love to go on long rides over the weekends and take the family for a ride. If I want to purchase an item inside the 200 mile radius I will tell them GREAT I WILL DRIVE THERE AND PICK IT UP SINCE I WILL BE TRAVELING BY THERE ANYWAY and if they hem and haw and such the deal is off.
I know this may limit your dealings with good stuff far away but in the long run it is better that way.
