Oh What To Buy ???
After a 45+ year hiatus, I have recently returned to the hobby of Ham Radio. I have kept my hands in 'radios' by being a Design Engineer (+ Engineering Manager, +Engineering Director) in the HF/VHF bands. I've been retired now for 12+ and see there is a tremendous leap in technology since my days of Johnson Transmitters and Hallicrafters SX-100 Receivers. I curently have a Icom 706 (not a MKII) and had (sorry I sold it !) a Kenwood TS-930SAT transceiver but want to take the plunge into more current technology. I've been researching the Elecraft K3, the Kenwood 590, the Icom 7600, etc. and would like to get some recommendations from the Ham community regarding the best rig in this price range. I live in a very restricted neighborhood and currently have a ZeroFive 29 foot Flagpole Vertical antenna which is about all I'll be able to put up unless I move. I also plan to get a moderate power solid state amplifier for the shack. Any recommendations/help will be greatly appreciated in making my choice of Transceivers. TNX . . . 73 . . . W2FGU
