Alpha 78

Post by ctgoldwing »

I have an Alpha 78 that has been sitting in a closet for 17 years. It is in pristine condition. When I was using it (for abt 2 yrs) it was for DX chasing so there aren't many xmit hours. Any idea of a fair price for it?
Thanks!

Here is a copy of an ad I found on the Internet asking $1,500 for an Alpha 78 that needs to be restored. The original price for an Alpha 78 was $3,450. A pristine Alpha 78 is highly saught after and is worth at least $2,100.

Thanks so much for posting that info! At least it gives me a starting point. Unfortubately I sold my Bird & have no dummy load to play with. . . I am aware of the issues when firing up a rig that hasn't been turned on in a long time. . . I thought that ETO (rip) used to offer a 'refirb' service. I'll try to find out if the new company does the same. Otherwise I may have to prevail on some of the locals to set it up & test it out. I guess we will know soon enough if you can 'reform' electrolytics, hi.
Thanks again for responding!

Great AMP...
I had to replace the front panel and cover due to the sticky panel syndrome... The amp will last for ever if used right. I see you are in 1 land, if I can help let me know...
I am guessing between $1500 and 2000
