Check the IP address FIRST

For reports of scammers using other people's callsigns. Remember that any callsigns listed in this forum are likely innocent bystanders (subjects of identity theft) and, thus, are probably not guilty of anything. For bad transactions with verified ham operators, use the Feedback Forum instead.

Check the IP address FIRST

Post by AC4AM »

It appears the scammer is all over the globe , Mexico, Canada and Virginia attempting to run scams using real hams calls , I have gotten 2 such emails where they are using calls in my state but are actually somewhere else.

My suggestion is check the IP address first , to see if it is a real request for your item posted. This is how scammers get you info to do their worst.

Thank heaven we have a screening unit on our phone so it doesn't ring off the hook.

Secondly check to see if they have their email address posted on QRZ.com the 2 that I have gotten the email from the address didn't match the posted email for the ham call. Another indicator that it may be a scam.

Stuff I have noticed that I feel will help others.

I want to thank QTH.com for helping us figure out whether it email is real or NOT.

Beware of emails coming from engineer.com I've seen where the IP's are in Canada and Mexico , who knows where next.
