Scammer posing as KF0SVK

Post by WA2DFI »

This scammer answered my TR-45L transceiver want ad directly (not through QTH.com).
He used the name Jose D Diaz at email address <Joseddiazz@outlook.com> in Englewood Colorado.
When I asked for a picture, he sent an image lifted from a popular video review of the TR-45L transceiver.
When I asked for a picture including his hand written call sign and name on a piece of paper, he refused.

He insisted that I send him the payment via PayPal "Friends and Family". Even when I offered to pay extra to cover the seller's fees, he refused, insisting on F&F payment only.
He sent me two PayPal e-mail addresses to send the money to, neither one belonging to him.
The first one was <kayceejones1914@gmail.com>, which belongs to a Joshua Ohajia somewhere in the UK. PayPal tried to convert my payment to Euros!
The second and "corrected" PayPal e-mail address was <Lionelbabycute@gmail.com>, which belongs to a Lionel Williams. There are two Lionel Williams listed in QRZ; one in FL and one with an expired license.

I did not go through with any payments; too many red flags on this one! I averted disaster, I hope you will, too.

So if you see any of these addresses come up in your dealings, beware!

The rules here at QTH.com are here to protect both buyers and sellers. Anyone that disregards them is suspect!

Scotty,

That was my old call sign. I had issues with it, one guy locally was using it to transmit and I called him out on it. I had another issue with that on a different site. So I applied for a vanity call sign in the hopes it would clear it up. I am sorry someone used it to try to scam you. I am trying to find a couple of discontinued radios and with all the scammers on here, I gave up.

Stay alert!
