When you REALLY don't want to sell it.

Post by K4ICL »

The XYL says some of your old gear has just gotta go and you need to prove to her
you are trying to sell it by placing an ad on the Internet but you really don’t want to sell it?

Here is what to do.

  • Don’t put any price to keep ‘um confused
Don’t include a picture to keep it mysterious
Include a tiny out of focus picture of a comercial ad
Don’t describe its condition so they’ll think its junk
Declare you won’t ship it to significantly reduce buyers
Require a local sale to reduce buyers even more
Make bad gramer and speling so tha well think yr add wittten by a idiot.
Put it in eBay and only list the eBay item number
Require offers be made for it; that’ll run some buyers off
dont use caps or puncuation so its hard to read know what i mean
Use confusing wording and spelling to remain vague
Type out your ad in UPPER CASE so no one will read it
Don't give a phone number so they can't find you
Include a nonworking email address so thay can't contact you
Make'um mad; threaten to put it on eBay
Don't list your callsign; that really ought to do it
Tell'em its really in good shape, for its age
Give'em a nonworking URL to get more info about your ad
Tell'em not to ask stupid questions
Don't even think of answering any emails you get

Results guaranteed! You will not have to sell it.

Cheers…

Dont want to sell?

Post by k8vf »

The one you missed is the easiest one.

Just list your price at the same or HIGHER than A.E.S. is selling the item for NEW.

I've seen it. It works every time.

Wont get many calls on that one.

Or just keep them sedated... Wife and Ham Radio are totally independant from one another. For a wife to say "you have to sell some....." means SHE is lacking something. Find out what it is , buy it for her and you are good to go... They have NO clue as to the value or addiction of Ham Radio.

Another one for the list -

Visit the manufacturers website, download a marketing photo of the equipment you want to sell and post it along with your 'For Sale' ad.

Then advertise the equipment's condition as '8 out 10' with just a few scratches.

Saw that...

I saw that and wondered why the user was being rude to all readers and, possibly, cause potential buyers to be wary of having anything to do with him.

I think what people sometimes mean is do research first before you call. I had a guy call me "4" times plus emails out the gazoo about an Astron 35M power supply I sold a while back , he wanted to know how many amps , if it had meters , if it will work with a Kenwood and if it was a switching power supply , if it was, what were the harmonics on it. Then finally wanted to know if it worked on 110 VAC.

Simple solution , go to the Astron Website and look it up...

Just my 2 cents...

I think my favorite may be "Still has the plastic on the display".
This sort of implies to me that you should buy this one as the owner is simply too stupid to remove the plastic or that using it for years with the plastic on helps it retain the "As New" status.

These radios are so static charged that I have never seen a plastic sheet that will not stick to one no matter how old it is.

the plastic's adhesive has become one with the display.its on there for good.

FOR SALE: BRAND X 2468.

Don't include what kind of rig a Brand X 2468. Make a potential buyer go to the manufacturer's website or to BoatAnchors and look it up.

Yeah, sure!!

When anyone emails you and says they will buy one of your many items for sale and wants to know if you take PayPal, just be a total jerk and ignore them. Even though you only stated asking prices in all your your ads and not the methods of payment you will accept.

And usually get a better item for less money . Pay with Paypal and you have some leverage against a bad HAM dealer to boot.

say you list a icom 706.

Lost or Lonely?

Post by ki6mws »

When you have it for sale for over a month and a buyer who is HAPPY with your price inquires, definitely argue that point. Tell 'em the price is what it is, that you don't need the money, and that if he feels that way he can go buy it new from the manufacturer. Then when asked for pictures of what he's buying for his $525, tell 'em you don't do pictures and if he doesn't trust what you have said in the 2 line ad, he can forget it. Then iPod him saying it's sold, but keep your ad open.
