Just what it says -- this is the place for any discussions not related to Buying, Selling and Trading ham gear. The discussion must be related to Ham Radio.

newbie help/info

Post by maxwell18 »

What would be a good rig for a new guy starting out in ham radio. I would like a dual freq (I think) 2/6 meters maybe. I'm a new Tech/no code, maybe will learn code later. I got a KenWood 2 meter mobile but don't hear anything at all. Thanks for any help you can give me.

As a newbie no code, your privileges extend to HF as well as VHF so you might want to consider a rig with HF, 6M and 2M.

Also, there is something to be said of having more than one transceiver; for example an HF rig with 6 meter capability such as the ALINCO DX-70 and a 2 meter HT or mobile rig.

Regardless of which way you choose, locate the nearest ham club in your area and attend their meetings. You will be welcomed by a whole lot of people willing to help you get started.

Again, welcome.
