windom antenna

Post by W4MCX »

Can a windom be constructed without using a 4:1 balun at feedpoint....? I have been advised that a balun can be constructed of coax at the feedpoint using 8" loops at 9 turns....What say you fellerss? 73's Mike

windom antenna

The windom antenna was originally meant to be fed with a balanced transmission line. You may see some designs where a single wire transmission line is used, but virtually no one does that anymore. My advice to you is to feed the windom with a balanced line (ladder or open wire line) and employ a balanced tuner. If you cannot bring the balanced line into your shack, then use a 4 to 1 balun. Use as short a run of coax into the shack as you can to reduce transmission line losses.
