Drake L4B mod.

Post by WB8JBG »

I'm looking for a mod for my DrakeL4b that will allow me to use it with my solid state rig. I know there is one, but I've searched and can't find one. Tnx.

Its liklely not just a mod to the Drake. For older amps and solid state rigs, you need a method of switching the antenna around, and also usually a bias supply, and maybe a relay as the switching line from the transciever is low
voltage logic and the old amp may have had 120 volt ac switching.
I have a heathkit warrior in the process of correcting.
Simple backwards wired filiment transformer, to give about 140 votls bias with a Half wave rectifier.
two dowkey relays to switch the input and output of the amp.
Basic need is to connect the two antenna connectors together on receive
and back to input //out put on transmit.
I think the late 70s or later handbook has the basics to do it.
This project is not rocket surgery..
