How to do a trade

I have some gear I would like to trade for other gear. Is there anyway of safeguarding this type of transaction as to not get ripped off? Would the proper etiquette be to receive to other persons gear before shipping out my equipment?

What if he prefers to do the same? Stalemate. Trading is just one of those things that you just have to do. If you don't feel right, back out. I've done a ton of trading on here. Some for 800 dollar rigs. Just talk on the phone and feel the guy out. At the end of the day, though, you take a risk trading by mail.
