Lessons Learned

For reports of scammers using other people's callsigns. Remember that any callsigns listed in this forum are likely innocent bystanders (subjects of identity theft) and, thus, are probably not guilty of anything. For bad transactions with verified ham operators, use the Feedback Forum instead.

Lessons Learned

BEWARE!! K9HVO's call is being used by a scammer that can only be identified as Kathy Anne Wolfe.

Below is a list of things you can do to protect yourself to not be taken:
- Check e-mail headers from supposed seller
- X-Originating-IP XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX <- This should be roughly close to the IP or service provider shown in the add.
- Online tool used to verify: http://centralops.net/co/
- Always get the seller's phone number and call it to verify.
- If you are paranoid do an area code lookup and if different use that as a verification during your call.
- Make sure you are talking to a live person
- Ask detailed questions concerning the purchase
