VE1OC/VE1BMJ Scam

Post by kh6jtm »

I had an ad here on QTH for a parts radio, and IC-736. A person using the name of Daniel Guam, VE1OC answered my ad using the danielgaum@outlook.com email, not using the standard respond button in the QTH ad which would have exposed his IP address/location but he started a plain email to me. (this would be my first clue as to his intensions). We corresponded and he said $200 shipped for the radio from Halifax, Canada. We agreed to Good and Services and I made a $208 payment to cover the processing fee. We continued to correspond and I was advised of a 21 delay in him receiving the payment from PayPal. I contacted PayPal and they confirmed that as a new PayPal listing (his) they put an automatic 21 day delay on payments. He stated that he would cancel the PayPal $208 payment and to send him F&F and he would get the radio out immediately and cancel the original $208 PayPal payment. As I really wanted the radio, I foolishly agreed and made the $200 F&F transfer. Right after making this stupid action, I went to the Feedback Forum here on QTH and finally realized, too late, that I had been taken for a ride with this SCAM. I went to PayPal immediately and filed a dispute with PayPal and at least have locked these funds ($208) away from him. However, he did send a follow up email after I accused him of the SCAM and he stated he was sick, in the hospital with cancer and could I send him some money so he could be released and he would send the radio. Fat Chance!!! Anyway as it stands he has not communicated for over a week, I have lost $200, do not have the radio, and have learned a good lesson. I doubt that I will ever hear from him again.
