Heathkit TT1 manual malfunctions

I have been working on a Heathkit TT1 for several weeks now and after following every step in the manual and still having no luck I discovered something baffling, There are 5 diodes in the tester. Each one of them is shown in the manual with a picture of its proper polarity and also a description of which end the positive side of the diode connects to what terminal. The problem is 4 out of the 5 diodes are shown on the schematic exactly backwards of the illustration and assembly picture. I find that somewhat confusing. Did Heathkit ever put out a manual with revisions? Does anyone know how the 5 diodes are supposed to be oriented? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
