Hi, does anyone know who might be able to fix a 1.2ghz module (FEX-736-1.2) for the Yaesu FT-736R? Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Adam, I ran into one last year that was DOA and found out the rf module chip needed to be replaced. They ran it with a high swr and cooked it. In this case it (the module) received ok though but no transmit. If no transmit or receive either then check all the cable connectors and look for any bent pins or pins not making contact. Especially the power supply voltage pins. They could have some oxidation on one of the vital supply pins causing a resistance and thus not enough voltage/current to the module. I pull the pins out of the connector one at a time and inspect them for any bent tabs etc. and bend them back to their proper positions or if they are too far gone replace them altogether. If they have bent out side tabs, they will make intermittant connections especially on the power supply pins and the ground pins. Of course make sure all the connectors are pushed all the way down onto their recepticales on the main board and that they are not off sideways by one pin. That would be a disaster. If no receive but transmit ok, then the rx path will need to be debugged on a equipped bench. Sometimes the frontend rf amp gets blown from static discharge or being in a lightning storm and the antenna was left connected. Hope this helps you...

Hi Tom, I wound up selling the unit but I will most certainly keep this info for the next one! Thanks, Adam Farber
