I am returning to amature radio after a long hiatus and would like to purchase a good dual bander with cross band repeat capability.

I really like the ID-800 but don't know if the digital capabilities are worth the price difference over say a FT-8800.

I've looked around quite a bit and it seems to me that D-Star hasn't quite caught on yet.

Am I incorrect in that assumption?
