Any one have any ideas for eliminating motor noise in a 2008 GM pickup. I have installed Yeasu 857 with remote kit. Noice level is terrible. It increases with speed of motor. I have grounded exhaust pipe, shielded DC cables directly from battery to radio., changed location of antenna mount and learned a few new words. Lower bands 80/40 are worse. Any help will be appreciated

Mobile Noise
Hello Sam.
Is this the first Amateur Radio you've mounted in this vehicle?
Is the noise more like a whine, white noise or popping (the spark plugs firing) as you increase your speed?
Which mode of operation is this noise heard, SSB, FM, AM or CW?
What happens when you Enable the Receiver's Noise Blanker?
In all new vehicles, you can have more than one mini-computer taking care of multiple functions other than the engine itself and they do have a tendency to radiate noise.
If the ignition key is inserted but not turned on, is the noise heard?
If the ignition key is inserted turned to the on position but the engine is not started, is the noise heard?

vehicle noise
1. No, have been operating mobile for many years
2. Noise is like a whine. It increases with rpm increase
3. all modes
4. reduces a little noise but noise level is still 7+
5. key insertion and no motor running no noise
6. same thing no noise unless motor is running.
Thanks for your reply.

Hi Sam,
Your answer:
There still is a solution to this problem and this is purchasing a large value Choke and Electrolytic Capacitor. Put the Choke in series with the FT-857 A+ Positive Power Cable. On the Output side of the large value Choke wire in the large value Electrolytic Capacitor between the A+ Positive Cable and the vehicle's Chassis Ground.
Perhaps there's a Homebrew solution at this wesite:

And some more information at the following website:

Shortly you should be on the road to a much less Whining noise.

Your answer:
Indicates there could be a defective Diode in the vehicle's Alternator system. I've seen this problem throughout the years with many types of vehicles while field servicing Land Mobile Business Two-Way Radios.

rpm increases voltage in a vehicle.
so.. first off is there noise with just the key truned on?
If so, possibly the fuel pump as it runs as soon as key is on.
If engine must be running,or not some times, could be the heater fan..
any motor can cause noise. I had a diesel car with this type of noise, even with alternator disconnected. found by accident when I had to repace the
DEAD blower motor..
