I just did a quickie look on Ebay and found three non-hams that had also posted the identical ham gear on QTH!! Even used the same photo!! What happens to you buyers when you send in your instant PayPal payment to an EBay seller. What if he gets an instant payment from an auction buyer at the same time he gets your payment? Someone gets screwed out of their purchase...that's what... and it will be you QTH buyers who will loose their payment and the rig you thought you bought!! If there's a vote...I cast mine for no non-hams and no double-posting(Ebay AND QTH)

I agree. You see Ileagel CB'ers at Ham Fest outside selling ham gear, and you hear on the CB chanels where Hams Buy Ham gear that has been modified from CB'ers.
Cb'ers like the Gear because it is a hot CB when modified.
And lots of times these same HAMS will get on the radio and tell you it is ileagel to do things on the frequency, and on the other hand sell Ham Radios to CB'ers..
I don't kow how the law is now because it changes so much,, but when I made my General Class ticket, There was an article by Gordon West WB6NOA, on how to sell ham gear.. you was supposed to go through a dealor,, and the purpose was to keep the Radio out of the hands of Ileagel Cb'ers. But today Hams just sell them to the one who brings the money first,, well I recon everyone get in a crimp and needs money, so maybe thats the reason,, as they say when you confront them,,,, (My Radio, My Money).. My call is in my post it is KC8GBF and it can be looked up on QRZ, and years ago I did myself sell a couple of ham radios to people that didn't have a call sign.. But when I read that article,, they must be a HAM to buy from me.. no other options are available.

The old saying "Buyer beware" comes to mind. Of course the corresponding "Seller beware" applies here as well. Sell to the wrong bloke and they can wreak havoc with your good name. It happens all too often.

A good practice would be for the seller to disclose in the listing or at least at the time a sale is being consumated that indeed the item is listed elsewhere. At that time they should hash out any details as to how the other listings will be handled. Full disclosure goes a long way to avoiding misunderstandings between good people. If either of the parties is not all that honorable there is little that can be done to head off ill will in most cases.


I don't mind buying gear from non hams. Some of my best receivers came from SWLs that never cared to get a ham license. In fact I also have a very sweet Valiant transmiter that came from a non ham.(Maybe even a CBer).
Widows, children, even perhaps non ham friends of SKs often sell gear. Sometimes the only person remotely familiar with radio that the family trusts is a non ham or even (gasp) a CBer.

Of course we are able to decide who we buy from and sell to but denying a person the ability to sell a radio seems a bit harsh. A ham ticket is specifically for transmitting priveledges on certain amateur frequencies, not a busness license that provides the ability to buy and sell radios. Nor does it convey the ability to set the buying and selling conditions for others.
