It is with a heavy heart that I post the untimely passing of my good friend N6GJR Carl Ayres, today, 9-01-10. That distinctive voice could be heard on 75, 40, 20, and all points in between. Carl's personality was simply magnetic. He would always help anyone on any project. I am going to miss my good friend. Rest in peace Carl. 73, Ralph W9CAR [/img]

I was very shocked to hear of Carl passing.

I received a text msg from his daughter in law Jamie last night at 9pm.

I was very fortunate to live close to Carl, I visited with him often.
We met several years ago as he lived close to myself and I heard his big mouth on 40m one night. We became instant friends. I was always happy to help him out with antenna projects, go to flea markets together, shoot the breeze and share good laughs.

Carl is one heck of guy, always willing to help others out and is a good friend.

I will miss his MC persona on the bands, November 6 Great Jumping Rabbit !
or N6GJR/ nic - not in California.

Carl lost his wife of many years not to long ago around the end of June.
He took care of her as she was ill for many years. It's true what they say, once
one passes the other is not far behind.

Come to find out Carl had Lukemia. He was told this by his doctor possibly a few months ago.

I was not aware of this, Carl probably wouldn't have wanted others to worry about him so he would not have told his ham buddies. Being an old timer who did not go to the doctors often unless very ill I'm sure it was a surprise to him as well.

Carl was a Navy vet as most of you are aware of.

There will be a memorial service for him Sept 10th at 2pm in Rockwall, Texas
at the Rest Haven funeral home 2500 State Highway 66.

If anyone has any questions or needs information please contact me via
email W1JCW@hotmail.com

I will miss this guy and the great times we shared together.

I know the friends he had around the world will miss the voice of the guy we considered a good friend.

God speed Carl my good friend & 73..

John

I too am sorry to hear of Carl's passing. I've only knew Carl for a year or so. He was always friendly to me and others in our QSO's.

God bless you Carl.

It was very nice. Pictures scrolling on a large screen. Pictures out on tables with candles.

A very good friend of his Richard spoke.

I was the only amateur there, I spoke about playing radio, how we met, the many friends he had world wide and the voice of Rowlett, Texas...as Carl
used to say on the air.

Some very sad pics but very respectful were when he was removed from him room after he passed at the VA hospital his gurney was covered with a flag as he was a Navy vet and vets on their scooters were in front and rear as an escort.

There was a vet sitting saluting his draped bed as well, It was very moving.

There were about 50 in attendance.

So long young man I will miss you.
