Hey folks, I purchased my Kenwood TH-F6A triband HT when they first came out and, hands down, it's been the best HT I've ever owned. 99% of its use has been listening only. Anyway, I use the thing daily just to listen and when I turned it on recently, the display wasn't working at all. Everything functions fine, just no display at all. I'd love to have the thing up and running again but we have 4 kids to feed....20, 10, 7 and 1! Yep, we have one in college all the way down to one learning to walk! Anyway, I'm sure it wont be a cheap fix and I can't justify a personal expense like that to myself.
I'm an Advanced Class but I'm not exactly an electronics tech. On the other hand, I'm certainly not against making the repairs with good guidance/advice. If anyone has experienced this issue with their TH-F6A and knows of a relatively inexpensive fix, I'd be grateful to hear from you! I probably sound like a cheap skate trying to avoid what is probably only a $100 repair but I thought I'd try this route instead of letting it collect dust.

to start. try pressing in increments around the edge of the display.
see if it pops on temporarily.

the displays in HTs are like a chip. tiny contacts all around the edges.
if it or he board gets loose or warped, , no contact.

or it if gets rotated a few degrees, some of the contacts wont make.
and they are tiny... maybe 25 to 30 thousands wide.
you can takethe covers off and likely easily remove the display.
wipe the contacts on both sides with alchol , and acurately replace.
use a fine felt tip pen to indicate location of several contacts around the board and on the display. that will allow you to place the display back on
and accurately re-orient it.. as the contacts will all be hidden..
